Hello! This is Corina Gutiérrez, the Director of Youth Líderes Program with the Council de Manos. This year the Youth Líderes Training will be held on October 24 – 26, 2017 at the California School for the Deaf – Riverside (CSDR).

Each Plan is described in full here:


Plan A: the students and chaperones will attend the training at CSDR on October 24 – 26, 2017 for no cost.

Plan B: the students and chaperones will attend the training at CSDR and the Council de Manos National Conference at The Marina Del Rey Marriott in Marina Del Rey, California on October 24 – 28, 2017 and the registration cost will be $150.00.

As for schedule, we will start the kickoff at Marlton School for the Deaf on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 5:00 pm. All students and chaperones will be going to Marlton from the Los Angeles International Airport. After the kickoff, the students and chaperones will go to CSDR. On Wednesday, October 25, 2017, we will have workshops all day and on Thursday, October 26, 2017, we will continue with workshops until 2:00 pm.

Plan A: California Manos del Corazón committee will provide transportation from the Los Angeles International Airport to Marlton School for the Deaf and then CSDR will provide transportation from Marlton School for the Deaf to CSDR for the training on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 and transportation from CSDR to the Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday, October 26, 2017.

Plan B: California Manos del Corazón committee will provide transportation from the Los Angeles International Airport to Marlton School for the Deaf and then CSDR will provide transportation from Marlton School for the Deaf to CSDR for the training on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 and from CSDR to the Marina Del Rey Marriott on Thursday, October 26, 2017. On Sunday, October 28, 2017, it is students’ and chaperone’s responsibility for transportation from Marina Del Rey Marriott to the Los Angeles International Airport.

Our organization and CSDR will provide free accommodations and all meals at CSDR during the training. Council de Manos will cover meals during the conference. It is the responsibility of the student and chaperone or student’s school to pay for air fare, hotel rooms and all registration costs.

The training will be for Latinx high school students (freshman to senior) only. The workshops are included: Leadership, Identity, Culture, History, Tradition and Self advocacy. We will have special Latinx presenters who will provide workshops.

Welcome: Conversing with Family

This workshop is targeted for families who are raising Latinx Deaf or Hard of Hearing children of all ages, included extended family members.
Second Chance
Jamila Guerrero Cantor and Richard Hall
This presentation will begin with a screening of "Second Chance," a short film. After the screening, a brief history on the making of the film and its impacts will be discussed. Q/A session will take place after the discussion.
Among Family
Noralee Jasso
To promote discussion among Latinx families and their knowledge with raising children who experience deafness as students of color in a predominantly White-dominated education system.
Celebrating with Family: Strengthening the relationship between Fathers and their DHH Child

This workshop is the closing of the Family Program.
